The Scream: My Interpretation

I interpret “The Scream” as the man in the picture screaming because the ship is sinking maybe towards the sunset. The man looks alone and in distress. Worried that his ship is going down and he does not know what to do; helpless.
On the other hand, it almost seems like as if there is a tall man behind him dressed in all black and maybe he’s running from him. The guy might be a ghost or in his imagination and he doesn’t know what to do or where to go. He almost looks in shock or in disbelief maybe.
